East Hartford 2 for 1

This is the Selden Brewer House, built around 1827, looking just a little bit Southern and standing unassumingly on Main Street in East Hartford trying not to draw any attention to itself.

It has an interesting history but I didn't come here to see it. I came for its neighbor.

Why yes, it is a schoolhouse: the 1870 Hockanum School. I had assumed that East Hartford's only old school building was hidden away in Martin Park with the rest of the little cute-enough-to-put-on-your-bookshelf-as-decoration historic structures, but nope. This one escaped.
