Nutmeg Poisoning

-Julie, aka CT Girl About Town, knows everything that's happening everywhere. So it's only fitting that her tweets alerted me to the existence of this new grilled cheese place in Fairfield. I have an aversion to melted cheese, yet this looks amazing. What with that and the cupcake place I just spotted in the Brick Walk last month*, I think Fairfield's new specialty is making me crave food I don't actually even like. How does everyone who lives there fit into their size 0's, I wonder...

-The November 2013 issue of the Smithsonian Magazine is all about a select set of very important American objects in the collections of various Smithsonian museums. Flipping through I found three Connecticut connections - a daguerreotype of John Brown taken by "Augustus Washington, the son of a former slave, in his studio in Hartford"; the cotton gin, invented by Eli Whitney of New Haven; and the Colt Paterson revolver, which, okay, was named for New Jersey, but whatever. There's also a piece by Martha Stewart, but do we still want to be associated with her?

-Recently I went to Hartford Prints for the first time with Jen, and I think I'll have to get one of these Small State Big Heart T-shirts.

-I was really okay with never reading another Newtown article ever again (oh yes I am a hypocrite, having written a few, not counting blog posts) but this one in New York Magazine is insightful, and includes some little local details that save it from the "perfect town" trap.

-I have absolutely zero feelings about Christmas trees. Well, that's not true, I suppose I have two feelings about them, namely, "ohh shiny lights!" and "not in my house never ever no way no how." Yet I'm sort of...proud? or something? that this year's Rockefeller Center tree is from Shelton. Also it cracks me up that Shelton's claim to fame is that it was twice named "the best affordable suburb in Connecticut" by Bloomberg Businessweek. Aim high, Shelton, aim high.

*It's not new, I am slow.
