Harbor Light

"What do you say to an automobile ride? I’ll get out the Buick and we’ll drive around town and out to the lighthouse and back" - Ah, Wilderness!

I don't know why I've never posted about the New London Harbor Light. No, that's a lie. It's because of that rule whereby anything  in your own back yard becomes magically invisible to you and interesting only to tourists. Call it the Empire State Building rule. (I should note, this is not literally in my back yard. It's in someone's back yard, or driveway, and I'm sure it's not invisible to them.)

But whenever I forget about the lighthouse, it sneaks up on me. Depending on where I am when I catch a glimpse of it, it looks either very tall (it is the tallest in the state) or tiny, like a replica lighthouse one would keep on a bookshelf. Driving up Pequot Avenue or standing somewhere across the river, I'll see it and suddenly remember how pretty it is. And occasionally I pass the entrance of this driveway and realize it's even prettier close up.
